The Grand Forks council will discuss the fate of the Ambassador Motel next week.
The 22 unit Inn was closed in April after inspectors deemed the building to be unsafe. Residents living at the motel were forced to find housing elsewhere.
On April 23rd a fire heavily damaged a portion of the building. An initial estimate put the damage at $30,000 dollars.
Grand Forks Building Inspections Director Brandon Boespflug says the demolition order was filed June 7th. He says the owners appealed the decision on Friday.
City Attorney Dan Gaustad says it’s in the city’s best interest to hold the hearing as soon as possible to resolve the issue one way or the other. The council agreed to place the hearing on next Monday’s agenda. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
