UND’s 15-student Flying Team finished second overall at this year’s Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (or SAFECON), held by the National Intercollegiate Flying Association.
Because of COVID-19 concerns, the event was held virtually with no flying events. Ground-based events made up most of the competition.
In the past 37 years of competition, UND has placed first or second 31 times.
UND aviators Garret Turco and Joseph Taylor ranked first and second as top scoring contestants, among hundreds of competitors from across the country.
