With COVID-19 settling down it’s time to start thinking about West Nile Virus.
Grand Forks health teams will start putting out trap count numbers for mosquitoes this week.
The health department’s Todd Hanson says the department had some difficulty getting a full staff this summer but the annual larvicide campaign is underway. He says one change this year is a partnership with an outside company to trial some new equipment. “We are doing a study with a company that has a machine that will work on species identification for mosquitoes. They are developing this so they have agreed to allow us to be one of the districts to use the equipment.”
Hanson says if the system works it should save a lot of time.
Last year Grand Forks crews launched eleven ground sprays for the summer pests. There were 22 in 2016.
