It’s known as the Larry Abernathy Award and the University of North Dakota and City of Grand Forks can now claim the honor. The two entities received the award during a ceremony this week at the International Town & Gown convention in Milwaukee.
The award is given annually to a city and university that together best demonstrate a desire to collaborate for the betterment of their campus and community.
In a prepared statement Mayor Brandon Bochenski called it an honor. “The positive environment we’ve created will be crucial as we work on more value-added and successful partnerships.”
UND President Any Armacost said he treasures the relationship with Grand Forks. “We’ve done so ever since city, UND and Dakota Territory leaders laid the campus’ first cornerstone back in 1883.”
