Dr. Casey Ryan of Grand Forks has been unanimously elected as the next chair of the State Board of Higher Education, effective July 1st.
Ryan is the current vice-chair. He will succeed Nick Hacker, who has served his limit of two one-year terms as chair.
After the vote, Ryan thanked the board and said: “I will be relying on chair Hacker and the support of the other board members, so again, thank you.”
Ryan added with a chuckle: “And if you think I‘m out of line, tell me. I’ve been told that many times in the past, so I can handle it.”
Ryan has been on the board since 2017.
Jill Louters was elected vice-chair for the next year. Louters is superintendent of the New Rockford-Sheyenne school district.
In other news, the board unanimously approved UND’s request to sell three lots on the 400 block of Princeton Street.
The Delta Upsilon Fraternity wants to build a new house on the land.
The current Delta Upsilon house is at 505 Princeton. That land would revert back to UND.
