East Grand Forks may enlist the services of a construction management firm to help fine-tune cost estimates on potential park improvements – including the aging ice arenas.

East Grand Forks hired JLG Architects in 2019 to conduct a comprehensive building review of the Civic Center and VFW Memorial Arenas.  The repairs and renovations could range from $13-$20 million dollars.

Park and Rec Superintendent Reid Huttunen says Construction Engineers would be hired at a cost of $22,500 dollars to help detail the project bidding and construction schedule.

Council member Dale Helms questioned the need for hiring another consultant before voters decide whether to support a sales tax to finance the project.  Mayor Steve Gander says additional cost estimates will help in the decision making process.

In other council news members reviewed a Park District plan to increase pool prices for the upcoming season.  Most daily fees will increase a dollar and the family swim pass will climb two dollars.  The hike will generate around $9,200 dollars in additional revenue based on 2020 attendance.
