GF teachers get new two year deal

By Doug Barrett May 25, 2021 | 7:58 AM

The Grand Forks School Board approved a new two-year contract with teachers last night (Monday).

The package calls for a 0.5% across the board increase in the first year and a 0.75% increase in the second year of the two-year deal.   With step and lane changes Business Manager Scott Berge says the agreement results in a compensation increase of 2.14% and 2.38% respectively.  The contract will cost the district another $2.472 million dollars in new money over the span.

The recently concluded 2021 North Dakota Legislature increased the per-pupil payment slightly each year of the upcoming biennium.  The bill included language that 70% of the new state money be spent on “compensation for non-administrators.”   Board President Amber Flynn says the allocation from the state is a one and one percent increase each year.  Flynn says the step and lane changes would be more than the state increase.

The agreement still needs to be ratified by the teachers.
