GF council reviews local liquor laws

By Doug Barrett May 25, 2021 | 8:27 AM

The Grand Forks council took a first look at a number of revisions to the city code related to alcohol licenses in the city.  The draft plan looks at everything from number of licenses per owner to curbside and alcohol delivery with meals.

During the pandemic an emergency order was signed allowing bars and restaurants to offer alcohol alongside carryout orders to help struggling businesses.  The city is trying to decide whether to make that provision permanent.

Council President Dana Sande says he’s on the fence regarding the issue.  He says he sees merit to extending the service but also promised several liquor store owners that he will support ending the practice when the emergency order rolls off the books.   Sande says he’s also unsure how many bars and restaurants want to continue offering the service.

The council will take another look at the proposed revisions at a June 7th meeting.
