Palmiscno retirement open house set May 26

On Wednesday, May 26, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, the Grand Forks Park District is hosting a retirement public open house in the community room at ICON Sports Center to celebrate Executive Director Bill Palmiscno’s 47 years of service with the Grand Forks Park District.

 

“I’ve had 47 great years with the Park District.  It has been an honor working with so many wonderful people over the years and I have really enjoyed helping to provide recreation opportunities for the kids of Grand Forks,” stated Bill Palmiscno. “I look forward to retiring so I can spend more time with my family.”

 

Over the years, Bill Palmiscno has played a significant role within the Grand Forks Park District. Hired in December 1973 as the Arena Director, Palmiscno moved into various leadership roles at the Park District including Recreation Director, Superintendent of Parks & Recreation, and finally Executive Director in 2013.  He has also held many influential positions within the Parks & Recreation Industry taking on roles such as President of the North Dakota Parks & Recreation Association, President of the North Dakota Amateur Hockey Association, and State Commissioner for North Dakota Cal Ripkin Baseball.  Within the field of education, Palmiscno has been a seasoned instructor at the University of North Dakota teaching in the field of Recreation Arts & Facilities and served on the Grand Forks School Board for the past 30 years, taking on the roles of President and Vice President of the School Board.

 

“Bill has been a crucial part of the Park District for the last 47 years”, commented Tim Skarperud, President of the Park Board.   “We are very grateful to Bill for his leadership and all the great things he has accomplished throughout his career for our community.”

 

Bill Palmiscno’s last day with the Park District will be on Friday, May 28.  The Park Board has selected Superintendent of Finance George Hellyer as the next Executive Director of the Park District, beginning May 31.
