Ammo shortage makes ND study list

By Doug Barrett May 21, 2021 | 8:36 AM

Mixed in between reports on school funding…health care…and employee compensation will be a study by North Dakota lawmakers regarding the shortage of firearms and ammunition in the state.

The Legislative Management committee this week established the topics of study prior to the 2023 session.

On the gun front supporters say it might be time for North Dakota to attract a manufacturing facility to help make bullets.  Representative Alisa Mitskog says it’s her understanding that the empty ammo shelves in stores are caused by a shortage of ingredients – or raw materials.  “I am not sure by studying this we will solve that issue.”

House Majority Leader Chet Pollert says it’s worth a look.  “Is it an opportunity for economic development for a facility….we are a sportsman state…a gun rights state….that’s why it’s out there.”

Legislative Management will meet again on June 9th to decide committee assignments.
