Marijuana bill clears Minnesota House in historic vote

By Doug Barrett May 14, 2021 | 8:01 AM

Puffing on pot would be legal in Minnesota under a bill passed by the House last night.  The legislation was approved on a 72-61 vote.  The measure places legal limitations on the use and possession of marijuana.  It also sets the age for possession at 21.

Representative Jessica Hanson says the bill has statewide support.

Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka says there’s zero chance it’s going to happen in the Senate.  House Majority Leader Ryan Winkler says the vote could help in making adjustments to the medical cannabis program including the addition of flower sales.

Cannabis consumption would be restricted to private residences and properties, and prohibited in a motor vehicle, on a school bus or van, at a public school, charter school, or any location where smoking is prohibited under the Clean Indoor Air Act.
