Absentee ballot requests for the June school referendum election in Grand Forks are available starting today (Wednesday).
School board members approved an agreement this week with Grand Forks County for election equipment… training…and workers. Actual in person voting will be take place at the Alerus Center.
Should voters approve the $86 million dollar “ask” planning will ramp up on a new K-8 campus with Valley Middle School. Questions have surfaced as to what will become of the existing West…Wilder…and Winship elementary schools when the merger with Valley takes place. Business Manager Scott Berge says time will tell. “If and when that time comes we would make a request for proposals on the various sites. West is something where there might be some potential in the near term because there won’t be school there. Even with a successful referendum Winship and Wilder would be operating the next 2-3 years.”
Also on the ballot is an “ask” for a ten mill increase in the building fund. The election is set for June 22nd.
