Construction north of the Columbia Road Overpass underway

By Doug Barrett May 10, 2021 | 8:27 AM

The summer construction season heats up this week with crews moving four lanes of traffic into two north of the Columbia Road Overpass in Grand Forks.

It’s the start of a total reconstruction project from the overpass to the other side of University Avenue.  The nearly $6 million dollar upgrade includes new pavement…sidewalks…traffic signals…and upgrades to the pedestrian underpass.

Construction crews spent the weekend prepping for the site by installing temporary traffic signals at the various intersections.

Traffic will remain open on Columbia – but will be reduced to one lane in each direction as crews work on half of the road at a time.

Cross traffic on 2nd Avenue North will be closed to through traffic.  Cross traffic on University Avenue will remain open to through traffic except for when crews are working in the middle of the intersection.

The road reconstruction is expected to be complete by mid-August with the traffic signals replaced by late October.
