Armacost wants UND’s chief diversity officer hired soon

UND President Andrew Armacost says the University hopes to hire a Chief Diversity Officer soon.

Creating that job was the top recommendation of a recent university task force on diversity and inclusion.

Armacost told a virtual faculty town hall meeting this week that a job description is being drafted. He says the position will be “central to all efforts on campus.”

Armacost said: “I’d like to move quicker than slower on this one. I think it’s an important element of our campus and it’s something that’s been I think missing from our leadership portfolio.”

UND has been without a full-time chief diversity officer since 2017, when Sandra Mitchell resigned.

Since then, her duties have been absorbed by Cara Halgren, V-P for student affairs and diversity… and Tamba Kuii-Bailey, assistant provost for inclusion and equity.
