GF road construction season about to take off

By Doug Barrett May 3, 2021 | 7:51 AM

The summer construction season is back.  Grand Forks motorists will get a crash course of what it’s like to navigate orange pylons starting this week.

Crews will begin closing off portions of North 3rd Street from Demers to University Avenue starting today (Monday).  A nearly $4 million dollar reconstruction project is planned.  In addition to a new concrete street the work includes curb extensions…ornamental lighting…streetscape features…and sidewalks.   Federal funding will chip in $2.44 million dollars.

Crews this week will also be placing lane closures at intersections on 32nd Avenue South from I-29 and South 20th Street.  The turn lane and signal project will be done in phases to avoid all intersection closures at once.

Still about seven to ten days out is the start of the reconstruction of Columbia Road from the overpass to north of University Avenue.  The nearly $6 million dollar project includes new pavement…sidewalks…traffic signals…and upgrades to the pedestrian underpass.
