ND vaccine partnership getting up to speed

By Doug Barrett Apr 30, 2021 | 8:19 AM

A joint border vaccination program for COVID-19 between North Dakota and Canada involving truck drivers from Manitoba and Saskatchewan is off to a good start.

State health officials say 297 people came through the vaccination site at the I-29 rest area near Drayton during the first week of operation.  On Wednesday the site drew a crowd of 108 truckers – all but two receiving their first dose of vaccine.

Marie Moe of the North Dakota Health Department says shots are available three days a week (Wed-Th-Fri).  “They pull up coming 5-6 at a time and are able to wait and get back out on the road.  We’ve heard from our operations center that they’ve had positive interactions.”

An additional vaccination site is in the works near the Saskatchewan border crossing at Portal (ND).  The cost of the program is being covered by the U.S. government.
