With the end of another school year rapidly approaching plans are being finalized for what prom and graduation might look like with COVID still around. The pandemic cancelled many school events in 2020.
Grand Forks school officials are hoping to hold near normal prom and graduation ceremonies this year. Red River’s prom is scheduled for May 1st and Central on May 8th.
Superintendent Terry Brenner says the district is monitoring the local health dashboard for guidance. “If we stayed in the orange for two weeks we would reevaluate moving forward with more restrictions in place.”
Grand Forks slipped back into yellow – or moderate risk – from orange on Wednesday.
East Grand Forks school officials are promising a slightly different look to prom because of the lingering pandemic. Senior High Principal Brian Loer says the May 8th event will feature an outdoor Grand March. “Instead of a dance we are having a formal sit down dinner with kids in groups of six as allowed…and there will be an entertainer hypnotist at 9:00 o’clock.”
East Grand Forks will also move graduation ceremonies to the larger Civic Center to allow more people to attend.
