The Grand Forks Building Inspections Department has provided additional details into Friday’s decision to deem the Ambassador Motel unsafe to occupy.
As KNOX NEWS reported last week an inspection of the property at 2021 South Washington resulted in an order to vacate. Following an inspection the 22 unit motel was determined to be a structure that “poses an imminent danger to life, health, property, and safety of the public or its occupants.”
The city received a complaint about the motel not being ADA compliant on March 11th. An initial inspection found additional code violations. On March 31st the entire property was checked by the Inspections Department…Public Health…and the GFFD.
A statement released by the city says the exact operation of the Ambassador Motel is also unclear. If the Ambassador Motel is operating as a hotel/motel, they currently do not have the required licenses to do so. If they are not operating as a hotel/motel, they are in violation of city code requiring a certificate of occupancy to lease rooms.
The city is working with various agencies to find housing for the residents who were staying at the Ambassador.
