P & Z reviews Archives rezoning and UND demo plans

By Doug Barrett Apr 9, 2021 | 7:15 AM

A zoning change is in the works for the Archives Coffee House on the UND campus.  The city is looking at a PUD that would shift the zoning of the parcel at 3204 University Avenue into a commercial zone.  Supporters say the change from a university district makes sense given the growth of the business over the years.  Interim City Planner Ryan Brooks says each request needs to be looked at on a case by case basis….

As part of the future business model the owners of Archives have informed the city of plans to seek a beer and wine license in the near future.  Alcohol sales would end at 10:30 p.m.

In other P & Z news the commission gave initial approval to a plan by UND to raze Walsh…Squires…Bek…and Hancock dormitories in favor of a new campus building.  Preliminary plans suggest the upper floors could be used for student housing while the first floor would be for mixed use – including retail and restaurants.
