Grand Forks has secured a $1.1 million dollar grant to help convert the downtown Herald building into a technology accelerator. The Economic Development Administration announced the award through the office of U.S. Senator John Hoeven.
In a prepared statement Hoeven says “for more than a decade we’ve worked to build North Dakota into a global leader in the unmanned aerial systems field.” He says the grant supports continued expansion of the tech sector in the Red River Valley.
Mayor Brandon Bochenski says the financial commitment by the EDA shows Grand Forks is ready to take the next step when it comes to tech sector growth. “Converting the Herald building into a tech accelerator will make it an economic driver not just for the city but the entire Red River Valley.”
The grant carries a $1.1 million dollar local match. The release goes on to say move will create 139 jobs.
