UND continues to reshape and modernize campus landscape

By Doug Barrett Apr 5, 2021 | 8:14 AM

It will be another busy summer construction season at the University of North Dakota.  New buildings…demolition…road improvements…additions…and renovations have been common campus themes in recent years.

Progress is being made on the Memorial Union project…Nistler College of Business raised its final beam last week…Chester Fritz Library renovations are nearly complete.  More street improvements are planned around the campus – including a stretch of Columbia Road.  The Memorial Village project is also getting underway.  UND has plans to demo McVey and West Halls in favor of two new buildings near Stanford and University Avenue.

UND President Andy Armacost says the improvements will help UND thrive and grow.  “The goal is to make better use of the spaces we have…to modernize those spaces to provide a better learning environment for our students…and really reduce the cost of deferred maintenance.”

Armacost says when you take down buildings that are no longer being used it can save a lot of money.
