Among the dozens of award categories honoring efforts of the Grand Forks Police Department during a ceremony this week was the Purple Heart given to the widow of Officer Cody Holte. GFPD Officer Holte was killed in May of last year in a shootout in a south Grand Forks apartment. Holte – along with Cpl. Patrick Torok – also received Medals of Honor during the event. Nine other officers were presented with Medal of Valor for their actions.
The special awards were presented at the end of the annual ceremony that recognizes police personnel for everything from years of service and firearms proficiency to lifesaving and outstanding performance.
