A quick knockdown by fire teams prevented more serious damage to a Grand Forks home early this morning.
Crews were called out to 2201 University Avenue shortly after 3:00 a.m. When they arrived smoke and flames were coming from the bottom of the steps leading to the residence. Damage was limited to around 500 dollars.
The Grand Forks Fire Department listed the cause as improper disposal of smoking materials. There were no reports of any injuries.
