
The state Senate has unanimously approved a measure requiring 20 percent of future oil tax collections deposited in the state’s Legacy Fund to be invested in North Dakota.
The money would be used for infrastructure loans and capital for in-state companies.
An effort to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana has been rejected by the North Dakota Senate.
The measure would have reduced the penalty for possessing an ounce of pot to a $50 dollar fine. Critics say now is not the time to decriminalize marijuana.
The North Dakota Senate has killed a bill designed to raise the gas tax by three cents to help fix roads and bridges around the state. The increase would bump the tax from 23 to 26 cents a gallon.
Supporters say the tax has remained unchanged for 16 years. Opponents counter that a pandemic is not the time for raising taxes.
