The Alerus Center ended 2020 in the red as a result of cancelled shows and events due to the pandemic. General Manager Anna Rosburg told council members last night (Monday) that what started out as a potential record breaking year for the Grand Forks building quickly evaporated. Rosburg says initial projections had the events center losing upwards of $2 million dollars – but the end number will be closer to $792 thousand dollars. “We put $3.2 million dollars back into the economy and that’s without a multiplier. If you think of a loss of $792,000 vs what if could have been and what the facility was able to return to the community that’s an important number to us.”
Rosburg says despite the pandemic the building was able to make key improvements including new turf…build on partnerships…host 323 events…and assist in various community efforts.
