GF County mask mandate set to expire

By Doug Barrett Mar 5, 2021 | 8:52 AM

Grand Forks County could see the mask mandate come off the books as soon as Monday.  County Health Officer Dr. Joel Walz tells KNOX News that with COVID cases falling he will likely rescind the health order next week.

Walz says the decision is tied to changing metrics based on the Grand Forks Health dashboard.  “It’s the driving force to guide some decision-making and we’ve seen some nice trends down here.  It’s still a good idea to wear a mask for a lot of people but maybe we don’t need the public health order.”

Dr. Walz signed the health order January 18th to coincide with the expiration of the statewide mandate.  At the time Walz stated it was a “simple and critical tool in helping protect the community and slowing the spread of COVID-19.”  Walz says masks do work and he still recommends their use as COVID-19 is still in the community.
