Altru Health plans to breathe new life into its stalled hospital project. Hospital officials announced on Tuesday that they will resume construction this fall with a completion planned in 2024. Altru paused the project last year due to COVID-19.
Altru Interim CEO Dave Molmen says 2020 was a challenging time but they made decisions to enter 2021 with a strong financial outlook. In a prepared statement Molmen adds “As we remain focused on the healthcare needs of our region now and in the future it is imperative that we resume construction.”
When the project broke ground in June 2019 the plans called for a $305 million dollar seven story structure. Those plans changed in late 2019 to a five story building with a price-tag of $250-million. In March Altru announced they planned to raise the height back to six floors.
While construction is set to begin this fall, work on the project will begin immediately. The project will be financed through a combination of municipal bonds, contributed cash, and philanthropic support. Most of what was previously planned for the hospital will remain the same, however, over the next several months lessons learned from COVID will be incorporated into the final design.
