UND begins search for police chief/assoc. VP for public safety

UND has begun a search for its next associate vice president for public safety and chief of police.

 

The new hire will succeed Eric Plummer, who left UND to become chief of police at Radford University in Virginia.

 

The University has hired an executive search firm, Spelman Johnson, to conduct the search.

 

UND’s 12-member search committee is chaired by associate VP for human resources and payroll service Peggy Varberg.  It includes Tracy Meidinger, who is serving as interim police chief.

 

Grand Forks Police Chief Mark Nelson is also on the committee.

 

The application deadline is June 18.  On-campus interviews are scheduled July 19-23…with a hiring announcement expected in mid-August.

UND release:

Vice President for Finance and Operations Jed Shivers has launched a search for UND’s next associate vice president for public safety and chief of police (AVPPS).

The new AVPPS will succeed Eric Plummer, who was named chief of police at Radford University in Radford, Va. Plummer’s last day at UND was Feb. 28. Terry Wynne is serving as interim associate vice president for public safety while Tracy Meidinger is serving as interim chief of police.

Chairing the search committee is Peggy Varberg, associate vice president for human resources and payroll services.

The other committee members are:

  • Jennifer Berger, director of emergency management
  • Stacey Borboa-Peterson, director of student diversity and inclusion
  • Gabriella Danyo, student government
  • Chris Dingle, assistant director housing facilities
  • Adam Matz, assistant professor of criminal justice
  • Tracy Meidinger, assistant UND chief of police
  • Steven Morrison, associate professor for School of Law
  • Mark Nelson, Grand Forks chief of police
  • Alex Pokornowski, assistant vice president for student affairs and assistant dean of students
  • Donna Smith, assistant vice president for equal opportunity and Title IX
  • Nancy Yon, assistant attorney general/UND legal counsel

Jen Rogers, from Finance & Operations, will serve as chief administrative officer for the search.

UND has enlisted the services of Spelman Johnson to conduct the search for this position. It will begin taking applications the week of May 24.
