Special prosecutor will not file charges in deletion of Stenehjem email

(KNOX) – A special prosecutor has declined to press charges in connection with the deletion of late North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem’s state government email account, days after he died in 2022.
Mountrail County State’s Attorney Wade Enget says state law at the time didn’t clearly define emails as government records.
The account was deleted under the direction of Stenehjem’s assistant Liz Brocker… who resigned around the time reporters found out.
The deleted emails are part of a controversy over a million-dollar cost overrun for remodeling Attorney General Drew Wrigley’s office building.
State lawmaker Jason Dockter…who voted for state funding despite owning a piece of the building… awaits trial on a misdemeanor charge.
Brocker now works in the Burleigh County State’s Attorney’s office.
