On the legal front:

A former operator of four personal care assistant agencies has entered a guilty plea to defrauding Minnesota’s Medical Assistance program out of more than $4 million dollars. In 2018 the Minnesota Attorney General’s office charged Victor Clement with racketeering…theft by swindle…theft by false representation…and concealing criminal proceeds.  A sentencing date is set for October 11th.

An Illinois man has been sentenced to nearly nine years in jail followed by probation for setting fire to a cell phone store in Minneapolis in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd. Video surveillance depicts 29-year old Mathew Rupert asking for lighter fluid before entering a boarded-up Sprint store located on Nicollet Avenue. Acting U.S. Attorney W. Anders Folk says “Matthew Rupert chose to drive more than 400 miles from his home in Illinois to Minnesota to engage in violence and destruction.”

A 40-year old Minnesota man has pleaded guilty to seven armed robberies in the Minneapolis area. The U. S. Attorney’s office says Derrick Spillman pointed handguns at employees and demanded cash. Charging documents say the events took place in July 2020.

A 30-year old Minneapolis man has been indicted in the shooting death of a store clerk. Authorities say Marlow Carson robbed Blue Sky Wireless and West Bend Furniture in April. A store clerk was shot and killed during the robbery. No further court dates are set.
