(KNOX) -The Committee of the Whole of Grand Forks City Council has given approval to submitting to the United States Department of Transportation for a community air services grant.

Grand Forks City Administrator Todd Feland said that they are working with the airport authority. “The airport authority, they have to submit this grant to the U.S. DOT. And so we’re really a partner in this. But ultimately the airport authority has to move forward with that,” Feland said.

Feland told the committee that if approved by the U.S. DOT there is the possibility of another airline coming to the Grand Forks International Airport with another flight to a new location. “A flight of United to Denver,” said Feland.

Feland said that they are reaching out to an existing airline serving the Grand Forks International Airport to add another flight. “We’re also working with Delta to add a fourth flight.”

“We have really engaged the public and private stake holders really well about what their needs are. We’ve engaged the airline industry. And with all the hopes of moving forward,” Feland told the committee.

The committee approved applying for the grant unanimously.
