Valley City Man Arrested After Allegedly Pointing Gun at Pregnant Woman

(KNOX) – A Valley City man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he pointed a gun at a pregnant woman inside an apartment.

Eugene Smith, 33, was arrested after officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex on Fifth Street Southeast.

Three witnesses inside the apartment told officers Smith had displayed a firearm and pointed it at one of the women. The victim told police Smith retrieved a gun from behind his back, cocked it, and pointed it directly at her. The woman, who told officers she had recently learned she was pregnant, said she feared for her life. Two other witnesses corroborated her account.

Police found a 9mm cartridge on the ground in front of the apartment doorway. When they made contact with Smith in the rear parking lot, he denied having a gun and claimed witnesses had mistaken a radio frequency meter for a firearm. Smith refused to exit his vehicle for approximately 15 minutes and called 911 to verify officers’ identities.

Smith was taken to the Barnes County Correctional Center. During booking, corrections staff found a small bag of a crystal white substance in Smith’s clothing. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine.
