Grand Forks Firefighters Respond to Apartment Fire

(KNOX) -Grand Forks Firefighters responded to 2816 S. 17th St. #203 for smoke and flames showing.

Fire crews arrived on the scene to find smoke coming from a second-floor apartment.

There were also several reports of people trapped inside the apartment building.

Fire crews immediately started searching the building for trapped occupants. Fire crews removed one resident and multiple pets from the third floor.

The fire crews were able to quickly locate and extinguish the fire. One unit sustained extensive damage and there was smoke damage throughout the complex.

The tenants of the building were displaced for the night and are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with five engines, one truck, one command vehicle, and 17 personnel.

There were no injuries to the occupants or fire service personnel.

The Fire Department was assisted by Altru Ambulance, the Grand Forks Police Department and the American Red Cross.

The Grand Forks Fire Department would like to remind residents of the importance of operational smoke detectors.
