(KNOX) – Grand Forks Public Schools has recently been a victim of fraud by an external actor. This matter has been turned over to the Grand Forks Police Department and the United States Secret Service for investigation.

The district wants to reassure the community that no data from Grand Forks Public Schools was exposed during the incident. This is an isolated event and is not related to any other incidents. To be clear no GFPS staff or student personal information was exposed.
In response to a September 20 report of a student being exposed to a substance secondhand, the Grand Forks School District says staff responded accordingly and supported the student.
Out of extreme caution, Valley Middle School administration readily alerted a small number of families whose students may have been exposed to the substance by casual or indirect contact with another student, who occasionally visits their child’s classroom. Valley Middle School Staff had nothing to do with the origins of the substance.
This matter is under police investigation and being handled by law enforcement. Affected classrooms are being professionally cleaned out of extreme caution.
