(KNOX) – Heat advisories will be in effect this weekend…but the National Weather Service is changing wind chill headlines beginning in October.
Wind Chill Watches and Warnings will eventually be called Extreme Cold Watches and Warnings, and Wind Chill Advisories will be called Cold Weather Advisories.
The National Weather Service says the change is to account for the cold with or without wind, and the fact that cold weather alone can be dangerous.
Vince Godon of the National Weather Service Office in Grand Forks…says wind chill values and numbers will still be part of forecast warnings.
