(KNOX) – Officers from the San Diego Police Department presented a plaque to Grand Forks Law Enforcement this morning at Optimist Park.

The event was a show of solidarity to honor fallen service members of the San Diego PD, which continues its travels through the lower 48 to Washington, D.C. for National Police Week.
The Northern Valley Police Week Memorial Service is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16… also in Optimist Park. The ceremony will include the presentation of the colors, a 21-gun salute… and the folding of the U.S. Flag.
Local and federal law enforcement will be joined by the U.S. Air Force and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for this event.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day…and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
