(KNOX) – The East Grand Forks City Council unanimously approved Tuesday to apply with the Minnesota DNR for a special bow hunt in November to reduce the number of deer in the Greenway.

City Clerk Megan Nelson says East Grand Forks Police will issue up to 10 archery permits from the state to EGF residents.

Two hunters will be allowed to hunt one of five separate areas from November 15 to November 24… with the hope of harvesting a buck or a doe.

Nelson submitted the city application to the DNR today.

The City of East Grand Forks will donate four lots to Community Land Trust Homes and North Star Neighbors for single family homes.
City administrator Reid Huttenen says if the contractors can find builders, the homes will all be built by 2025.
Several council members agreed it’s an exciting opportunity for the city.
The next step will be to agree on the size of the lots and a sale price for the homes. That will be on the council agenda for meetings on May 7 or May 21.
The council also learned that June 8 will be Free Park Day for the Red River State Recreation Area.
