(KNOX) – The USDA estimates 21 million kids in 35 states will receive free school meals through a federal Summer EBT card program.
Families with children who are eligible for free-or-reduced-price lunches are eligible for Summer EBT… which will cover about 70 percent of the eligible population in its first year.
Families will receive 40 dollars a month per child… or a total of $120 per child.
Congress made Summer EBT permanent in 2024… after the USDA tested it for several years. States that to not participate will have a chance to join in 2025.
