(KNOX) – The Grand Forks Air Force Base is on lockdown and cars are being turned away at the gate Wednesday afternoon, April 17, following a report of a shot being fired on the base.
A spokesperson said that “at about 1 p.m. local time here, Grand Forks Air Force Base security forces received a report of a single gunshot near the medical clinic and base exchange. Out of an abundance of caution, they issued a lockdown to respond to the situation. As of 2:30 p.m., no injuries are reported and law enforcement is still conducting door to door sweeps.”
“Nobody is coming in or out until we clear the scene,” the spokesperson said.
A loudspeaker could be heard playing on the base around 2:30 p.m. saying that the base is on lockdown and that there is an active shooter at the Base Exchange and medical.
The base has not requested assistance from the Grand Forks County Sheriffs office.
