MN fire fatality under investigation

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal fire in rural Staples (MN) this morning.

First responders arrived on scene shortly before 11:00 a.m. and found a residential structure engulfed in flames. Fire crews extinguished the blaze and located an adult male victim deceased inside the home. Two adult victims were transported to a hospital in Staples for treatment of smoke inhalation. 

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Another structure on the property was also damaged by the fire. 

Assisting as the scene was the Staples Fire Department, Motley Fire Department, Pequot Lakes Fire Department, Staples Ambulance, and the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
