GFSO deputy shoots homicide suspect

The Grand Forks Sheriff’s Department is investigating a homicide in Larimore.

The department received a call from an individual this afternoon stating they had witnessed a homicide.  Deputies responded and set up a perimeter around the residence at 502 West 8th Street.

SWAT team members attempted to make contact with the suspect inside with no response.  The GFSO breached the door of the home by utilizing a ram on the front of the SWAT vehicle.  According to authorities the subject fired several rounds at the vehicle.

A statement from the GFSO says the individual eventually came out of the residence.  During the course of negotiations the man made a “furtive” movement towards his waist.  A deputy fired and hit the subject.  He was transported to Altru Hospital with unknown injuries.

Sheriff Andy Schneider says the deputy has been placed on temporary leave as per department policy.  The North Dakota BCI is investigating the incident.
