ND Ice Storm Still Impacting Power

By Doug Barrett Dec 29, 2023 | 9:59 AM

Electric co-operatives in southeast North Dakota say it may be next week before power is fully restored.
The recent ice storm caused power poles to snap, and lines being downed.

Josh Kramer is the executive vice-president and general manager of the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Co-operatives. He says co-ops from areas that weren’t affected by the ice storm have sent crews to help.  “It’s not going to be a quick process.  There is a lot of ice and a lot of damage to the system in multiple cooperatives.”

One co-op along reported more than 500 damaged poles.  Kramer says the repair cost will likely be in the millions of dollars.

The North Dakota Outage map had about four-thousand customers still in the dark as of this morning.
