On the first weekend of Minnesota’s deer season, a Minneapolis hunter was injured Sunday in Becker County in what authorities call an “accidental shooting.”

The County Sheriff’s Office says 40-year-old Jerry Sailor was shot in the leg by his hunting partner, who was checking to make sure his firearm was unloaded.

Sailor was transported in a private vehicle, but that vehicle broke down. An ambulance then took Sailor to a Bemidji hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Also, an Alexandria hunter was injured after falling out of his deer stand on Saturday. Authorities say 65-year-old Douglas Karsky fell about 10 feet in the woods near Lake Ida. He was on the ground for about an hour before a 9-1-1 call came in.

Karsky was having back pain and was taken by helicopter to a St Cloud hospital.
