5 MN officers shot, wounded; suspect arrested (Update)

Update 4:30 PM Thursday:

Authorities say five drug task force officers were shot and wounded while serving a search warrant near the Minnesota city of Princeton.

Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck says the officers announced their arrival at the suspect’s rural home around 7 a.m. today (Thu) and came under fire.

He says they returned fire and retreated.

The five officers’ injuries were not life-threatening. Three remain hospitalized.

The suspect, a 64-year-old man, was taken into custody around 10:45 a.m. after several hours of negotiations. He was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The area is about 50 miles northwest of Minneapolis.

Authorities say a suspect has been arrested after five drug task force officers were shot and wounded while serving a search warrant near the east-central Minnesota city of Princeton, about 50 miles northwest of Minneapolis.

A statement from Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck says the officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect this (Thu) morning.

The man, who was injured in the incident, was taken away for treatment after his arrest several hours later. The sheriff says the extent of his injuries wasn’t immediately known.

Authorities say three Sherburne County Sheriff’s Officers were wounded, along with one member of the Princeton Police Department and another from the Elk River Police Department.

The officers’ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office were present at the incident, but not injured.
