The Fargo shooter used a binary trigger

By Doug Barrett Jul 24, 2023 | 7:43 AM

The man who fired on police officers in Fargo earlier this month chose to use a gun that was modified with a binary trigger. The device allowed the gun to fire so rapidly that it sounded like an automatic weapon.
Some states do ban the purchase of binary triggers specifically or modifications like binary triggers generally. The manufacturer websites note that they cannot sell them to civilians in 12 states.
North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley says he wasn’t even aware of the device until after the fatal shooting on July 14th.

Wrigley says whether he will propose legislation to ban binary triggers is a broader topic for down the road.  “No meaningful purpose…I can’t find one for it.”

The funeral for fallen Officer Jake Wallin was held Saturday. A public memorial service is planned for Wednesday in Fargo.
