EGF to see recycling change

By Doug Barrett Jul 12, 2023 | 8:56 AM

Some changes are coming to the East Grand Forks recycling program.

Countrywide Sanitation will no longer accept glass containers in the single stream curbside pickup. Glass will still be accepted at the drop-off site.

Countrywide’s Rachel Gornowicz told city council members last night (Tuesday) markets that receive the recyclables now want the glass separated out.

Gornowicz was asked if any of the recyclable material ever ends up in the landfill?  “We see vacuum cleaners and other items.  People just throw everything and anything and it makes it tough for those trying to do the right thing.  I know there has been talk about that – it’s not a true statement even for the city of Grand Forks.  It’s truly recycled.”

Countrywide will be sending out postcard notices to homeowners to help educate the public.

The company hopes to implement the change ASAP.
