Twenty-one North Dakota counties – including Grand Forks – will be getting federal disaster funds for damages caused by major spring flooding that followed record snowfall.

The money became available on Wednesday, when President Biden approved Gov. Burgum’s request for a presidential major disaster declaration.

Burgum’s office estimates that the flooding caused more than $5 million in damage to roads, culverts and other infrastructure.

The disaster declaration covers 21 counties for the period from April 10 to May 6.

Walsh, Pembina, Nelson and Steele counties are included.
