ND supports base retention funding

By Doug Barrett Apr 28, 2023 | 8:16 AM

The North Dakota Legislature has settled on funding levels for base retention efforts around the state.

The House (Thursday) accepted a conference committee report that sets aside one-million dollars for communities with an Air Force Base or National Guard facility.  Under the program Minot would receive $500,000 dollars – while Grand Forks and Fargo would each receive $250,000.

Supporters say the funding makes sense since the annual economic impact of the three bases totals $1.2 billion dollars – employing over 14,000 people.

The Senate on Tuesday endorsed the funding package.

The House and Senate sent the bill to the governor with votes of 92-0 and 47-0 respectively.
