GF School District survey scheduled to launch Nov. 10

A Grand Forks School District survey on a new Valley Middle School is scheduled to be available online on Nov. 10th.

Officials from Grand Forks Public Schools, ICON Architects and a public relations firm met today (Fri) to finalize survey questions.

The current Valley School is nearly 70 years old. Building a new school would cost $55 million dollars… and a new central kitchen would cost another $6 million.

While Valley is the top priority, other survey questions involve future district needs, including security and safety.

Survey strategist Perry Hibner said, “Part of a prioritization system is that we may not be able to do everything all at once, but we want to find out what the community is willing to support now versus what we may have to all of a suden phase in as part two, part three, or even part four.”

The district is looking at a referendum on the bond issue next spring.

ICON’s Kyle Kvamme says renovating the existing Valley building would cost nearly $46 million dollars.

It’s estimated the new build would cost the owner of a $100,000 dollar home around $79.47 cents a year.

Post cards promoting the survey will go out next week. The survey will be accessible until Nov. 28th.
