GFPD to donate squad to museum

The Grand Forks Police Department has come up with a plan to donate Car #13 to the Law Enforcement Museum at Bonanzaville in West Fargo.

The squad was driven by Cody Holte and is scheduled to be taken out of service this year.  Holte was killed in a south side shootout in May 2020.

Police Chief Mark Nelson says the department will offset lost costs through a trade-in on a new vehicle by tapping a $15,000 dollar donation by the End of Watch Ride.  Nelson says the money is designed to honor fallen officers.  “The $10,800 dollars we would have had for trade-in will be pulled from the End of Watch Ride so that it’s a zero impact to the city budget.”

Nelson says what better way to honor the legacy of a true hero than to have something from Grand Forks on display at the museum.

The Grand Forks council gave preliminary approval to the idea at last night’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
